Douglas House - Biography

Throughout my painting years, I have been strongly influenced by the French and American Impressionists, the Barbizon School of painters and American Expressionists. I am fascinated by their use of light, paint value and color to create mood, mystery and expression.

For the past number of years I have focused my landscape paintings around the National Forests, Parks and Scenes of the Minnesota and Wisconsin Great Lakes area and the Canadian Border Parks. These areas have provided me with an endless supply of artistic inspiration and profound spiritual meaning, for personal insights and development.

It is my goal in painting, to explore the mystery, beauty and spiritual underpinnings of these areas, while rendering a non typical look at the landscape as it moves into the abstraction of light and movement.

The Archive Gallery  1970 -1996

Paintings in the archive gallery date from the early 1970's through about 1996 and many of these paintings were done before the digital age.  Most images were made from scanning 35mm slides, lacking some of the quality that can be attained with new digital photography.  Many paintings were eliminated from this gallery because of poor photographic imagery. So what you see in the archive gallery is a cross section of work through a particular time period starting with the early 1970's.

You can access the Archive Gallery at the bottom of the Works page.
